There seems to be only one thing to talk about these days, and no matter how hard you try, you go back to it. What will we remember of these days (or weeks or months :O) of social isolation, work from home, quarantines and economic losses? What do we have to be cheerful about? This is an attempt to record some things that made me smile in recent days.
Spring is here! I’ve been marvelling at the first signs of green in what were just brown twigs a few days ago. And the kariveppilai has burst into life!
My little niece has lost her two front teeth and has a wide-gap-toothed smile.
My successful cooking attempts in the recent past include a delicious tomato-toor-dal rasam; potatoes with just jeera and dried chillis, the way my friend used to make in college; dosas that are round, in shape and not burnt; yummy ribbon pakoda; consistently good chai (yes, that’s an achievement). I hope to add rotis to this list – wish me luck!
Since the yoga centre is closed, we’re trying to institute a regular 6.30 to 8 am practice at home every day.
Rahman’s released a new album – 99 Songs – that I’m yet to listen to, but I’m sure will be splendid!
We tried Google Hangouts at work for a meeting and had a good laugh reading the auto-generated captions, which included ‘urination’, ‘hands up’ and other off-the-mark words that none of us ever uttered.
The time this afternoon when VK and I realised that we will have to get back to work (from home) on Monday and that this wasn’t a vacation!
Gratitude to the Tamil meme world that helps us laugh and not collapse into the world of uncertainty unfolding around us. This is my favourite so far!
I recently managed to do something I’d been putting off for long – creating a list of people on Twitter, people who are likely to post things that I don’t get triggered by or that add to my already-strong cynicism.
And finally, for the compassion that I believe many of us are able to show for others who struggle through these times. Here’s hoping that there’s better news to share when I write next!
